When you collect email addresses, it’s important to make sure people really want to hear from you. A double opt-in adds an extra step where subscribers confirm their email before being added to your list. This is especially useful for GDPR compliance as it helps prove that consent was freely given and prevents people from being added by mistake or without permission.
Here’s how to set up a double opt-in in FEA Create.
Step 1: Create a Trigger Link
In your dashboard, go to Social Media & Email > Trigger Links > Links.
Click Add Link.
Give your link a name (for example, “Freebie PDF”) and paste in the URL to your freebie.
Save the link.
This trigger link will be used in your confirmation email to verify the subscriber.
Step 2: Create a Workflow
Go to Automation and click Create Workflow.
Choose Start from Scratch.
For the trigger, select Form Submitted and then choose the form connected to your freebie sign-up.
Save the trigger.
Step 3: Send the Confirmation Email
Add an action to Send Email.
Fill in the sender details and subject line.
Write a short message such as:
“Thank you for signing up! Please click the link below to confirm your email address.”Insert your Trigger Link into the email.
When subscribers click the link, they will be redirected to your freebie and the system will recognise them as confirmed.
Step 4: Add a Wait and Check Step
Add a Wait for condition.
Select Trigger Link Clicked and choose the trigger link you set up in Step 1.
Add an If/Else condition to check if they clicked the link.
Step 5: Confirm and Nurture Subscribers
If the link was clicked:
Add a Tag (for example, “Confirmed Subscriber”).
Send a welcome email letting them know they are confirmed.
Optionally, add them to a nurture workflow such as a blog or podcast sequence.
If the link was not clicked:
You may choose to leave them untagged or send a gentle reminder.
You will want to enable DND using the Enable/Disable DND action. This opts them out of any further emails.
Your double opt-in is now live. This setup ensures that only people who actively confirm their email will be added to your list. Not only does this help keep your audience engaged, it also supports GDPR compliance by giving you proof of consent.
