How to Transfer Your Domain Away from Wix to Use with FEA Create

Updated this week

If your domain is currently with Wix, you won’t be able to connect a dedicated email domain (like [email protected]) elsewhere.

This can make it tricky to use certain features in FEA Create.

The good news is that you can transfer your domain to a provider like GoDaddy or Ionos, which gives you full control over your domain and email setup.

Here’s how to do it step-by-step.

Step 1: Sign in to Your Wix Account

  1. Go to www.wix.com and log in.

  2. Click on your name or profile picture in the top right corner.

  3. Choose Domains from the menu.

Step 2: Unlock Your Domain

  1. Click on the domain you want to transfer.

  2. Scroll down to Advanced.

  3. Find the option that says Unlock this domain and switch it on.

This makes your domain eligible to be transferred.

Step 3: Get the Authorisation Code

  1. In the same section, look for Transfer away from Wix.

  2. Click this and request the authorisation code (also called an EPP code).

  3. Wix will send this code to your email address linked to your Wix account.

Step 4: Choose Your New Domain Provider

We recommend using a provider such as GoDaddy or Ionos

Create an account with one of these providers if you don’t already have one.

Step 5: Start the Transfer on Your New Provider

  1. Log in to your new domain provider account.

  2. Find the Transfer Domain option (you can usually search for this).

  3. Enter your domain name.

  4. Enter the authorisation code you got from Wix.

Step 6: Approve the Transfer

You’ll receive an email from Wix asking you to confirm the transfer. Follow the instructions to approve it. It can take up to two weeks for the transfer to complete.

Important Note for Google Workspace Users

If you're using Google Workspace for your email, make sure to copy over your MX records and any other records (like SPF, DKIM or TXT records) linked to your Google Workspace account. These will need to be added in your new domain provider so your emails continue working properly.

Once your domain is transferred, you’ll be able to:

  • Connect a dedicated email domain in FEA Create

  • Set up DNS records more easily

  • Fully own and control your domain
